SMAG Needs You!

The spring show, “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” has been cast and rehearsals have begun.  BUT . .. we still need many hands.  Maybe you can help:

Can you SCROUNGE?  No . . .really.  Do you have a knack for thrift stores, yard sales, combing friend’s garages, even stranger’s garages in search of a much needed prop, set piece or costume accessory?  If so we could use your skill.

Can you swing a hammer, drive a screw, paint a wall?  We need you.  Do you have an eye for clothing, styles for certain geographic regions or eras?  We need you.  Could you recruit a small crew to set up chairs on the three successive Fridays of our performances?  We need you.

Interested in helping with refreshment concession?  We need you.

The SMAG shows have been wonderful fun and effective fundraisers for decades . . . but they rely on the hard work of St. Michael’s parishioners for their success.  If you can help in any way, please contact Paul Hauck at 392-9970 or paulhauck@comcast.net.

Be sure to save the dates to attend the show:  Friday and Saturday evenings, May 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17.  Tickets are $15 general and $12 seniors, student and SARTA members.

2007 Annual Report

2007 was another busy and productive year for the performing arts at St. Michaels.  This year the annual production was Murder in the Magnolias, a comedy-mystery directed by our Artistic Director, Dick Williams.  Although this year the group did not repeat its fine showing of last year in the Elly Awards (those given annually by the Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance to honor achievements in community theater at which Dick Williams received a nomination for set design and Jean Dahl won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy), actors who have been involved with SMAG over the years were among those honored by the Ellys in other performances.

Our worship was enhanced by several chancel productions including the children’s Christmas pageant and the enactment of an original dramatization of the Passion of Our Lord.  In addition, several SMAG members sang and danced in the Spring Musical put on by Connie Weichert, Director of Music.

SMAG donated $2,000 to the general church budget of St. Michael’s programs.  SMAG made capital improvements to the stage, including new platforms extending the stage several feet further toward the audience.  In the recent past SMAG has improved Johnstone Hall with the addition of new stage curtains, additional lights, and improved stage sets.

SMAG coordinated the annual Gifts from the Heart program which provides Christmas gifts for scores of needy families.  SMAG also provided the Parish Hall Christmas tree for the good of the general parish.

We also realized one of this organization's goals, outreach to the community and potential new worshippers, as several actors in our productions from outside St. Michaels worshipped with us, sang in choir productions and in a few cases have become active members of the congregation.
