Holiday Food Baskets

Easter is just around the corner and here at St. Michael’s that means Easter Food Baskets. Stay tuned for more information!

Holiday Food Baskets served 60 families in 2006!

We donated food for the holiday baskets which brightened the Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations of 60 families, including 134 adults and 220 children.  The fund raising and organizational effort behind these gifts required countless hours of labor, all provided by members and friends of our church community.  In all of this, anyone who has been involved has clearly felt the movement of the Holy Spirit in the open-handed giving of time, talent, and treasure by so many.

Appreciations from RCCS:

During this season of thanksgiving, River City Community Services counts the people of St. Michael’s and their support among our greatest gifts for which we are very thankful. The members of this parish, through their commitment and compassion for those in need, enable us to reach out and provide nutritional food throughout the year, but especially during the holidays when families feel the increased intensity of poverty or face unexpected emergencies.

As always, we are so grateful for the 25 bountiful Thanksgiving Baskets that help families celebrate and eat nutritionally for several days. In the past, several churches have shared in this mission of providing special food baskets. Currently however, St. Michael’s is the only parish that continues with this outreach tradition. Please know that through the donations of food and money, St. Michael’s parish provides much more than the needed nutritional food. The message of the gospel lessons is mirrored through the actions of outreach, and the families who receive the food also receive the good news of the gospel in action.

Thank you for all you do to lead and support this congregation in its mission of outreach, with a very special thank you to Kathy Lunger and Norma Rehrer for their organization and work to assemble and distribute the baskets just before Thanksgiving.

Eileen Thomas, on behalf of River City Community Services
