The Mass Is Never Ended: Rediscovering Our Mission to Transform the World
Please join Donna Arellano and Kathy Hanson for lively discussion on the book The Mass Is Never Ended: Rediscovering Our Mission to Transform the World by Gregory F. Augustine Pierce. We will meet from 7 to 8:30 PM in the Friendship Room for four Wednesdays from April 2 - April 25.
At the end of our Sunday service we say: “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord” with a spirited “Thanks be to God”. But what happens next – what actions, if any, do we undertake the following week in pursuit of that commission? Although this book is based on the Catholic Mass, the ideas explored apply to the fulfillment of all Christian mission. Following the introductory session, members of the group will be asked to read just a few pages each week in preparation for our discussions which will center on discovering our own missions and the spirituality of our work—paid or unpaid.
Note: For this class, minimum enrollment is 7. To sign up and/or order a book, please call Starlene Rankin at 488-3550. List price of the book is $10.95.
Questions? Contact Kathy Hanson at 944-4471 or by e-mail at kathy@the-hansons.us.
2007 Annual Report
St. Michael’s Adult Education Programs are varied. We try to provide programs to meet the interests and needs of everyone. In 2007, the following programs were offered.
St. Michael’s continues to host the EFM program.
In February, Fr. George led a class on the Gospel of John. He followed this with a 6 week program on Lectio Divina during Lent. The attendees were so taken with Lectio Divina that a small group continued to meet and practice this form of meditative prayer.
In May, Rev. Jones from Arden Christian Church led a series on religious fundamentalism based on the book Battle for God. In the summer, Pastor Mary led a study of the Torah – comparing the Jewish view and Christian view of the first 5 books of the Old Testament.
Fall brought Tina Ferriot facilitating a series on Everyday Spirituality. Donna Arellano hosted a class on Labyrinths, complete with a field trip to Trinity Cathedral to walk the Labyrinth. Rod Davis presented a Sunday morning discussion of the proposed Anglican Covenant.
In November, we changed our pace and presented 2 evenings of Education Collage. This was an opportunity to learn something new and different in small classes hosted by our fellow congregants. Mary Groesbeck taught knitting, Clare Payne taught cooking, Pat Cole taught us about topiary, Sue Davis taught water color and pastel art, and Mary Davy taught genealogy. This was a great time to relax, learn something new and fun, and enjoy some fellowship.
The Committee is looking forward to an active year. Lenten programs are announced in the February Messenger. If you have ideas, thoughts, etc. regarding Adult Education offerings and/or speakers, please let the clergy know or leave a note in the Adult Education box in the Church office.
